For several Grands Prix, McLaren is on alternating current. While on the one hand, Daniel Ricciardo appears to be in an ejection seat, Lando Norris continues good performances like his podium at Imola. Results that the Briton owes to the work of the engineers and mechanics who made improvements to the MCL36.

Comfortable in both Barcelona and Monaco, the 22-year-old driver believes there is still work to be done to achieve more consistency with his car. " I think there are still some areas that are a little difficult, but I think that on average we have improved the car on average on all the circuits, explains the young McLaren protégé. But there are still a few that we haven't explored yet and had a lot of difficulty with last season. » At Zandvoort, for example, the British team was in difficulty last year, settling for 10th and 11th places.

In Catalonia, McLaren made a whole lot of fixes to its car but Lando Norris thinks that his team can do even better in terms of development. “ I'm pretty confident in saying we've improved the car. What we need now, in general, is a complete upgrade. There are definitely types of features that, personally, as a driver, I always expect more from the car and it's just difficult to go in that direction. », Underlines the Briton.

Differences in driving style and results between Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo

How then can we explain the difference in performance between the two drivers at McLaren? Lando Norris seems to have some answers. " VSEvery driver wants something different. I think what Daniel and I want from the car is pretty similar, but there are definitely differences in our driving styles and things like that. Sometimes I push my car in one direction and Daniel in another, so it changes. But it's also a personal question of how I want to drive the car », Says the native of Bristol.

« It's difficult to improve, especially from one race to the next, analyzes the Briton on his performance with his MCL36. But I think over the next few races, hopefully the next few months, when we can bring a few more things to the car, then we can move in that direction.» In Baku, Lando Norris will try to continue his good streak against his teammate and above all seek essential points to secure 4th place in the constructors' ranking for his team.
