Lando Norris spent a long time navigating between the second and the second and a half during the last twenty laps of the Japanese Grand Prix, contested this Sunday at Suzuka, but the Briton never managed to reach the DRS zone of Max VerstappenThe Briton even had to keep an eye on his teammate in his rearview mirrors. Oscar piastri. It was finally in the same order as on the starting grid that the three men saw the checkered flag.
Norris: "Max made no mistakes"
« We lost this race yesterday, Max made no mistakes, says Lando Norris, still leader of the Drivers' Championship after this event. Our pace was too close. It was a long race with a lot of attacking from start to finish, but nothing in particular stood out against Max. He deserved his victory. »
The best and only opportunity for the Briton came at the exit of the pit lane during the only stop of the race, where he came out neck and neck with the Dutchman, even trying to overtake him on the grass. It's the race, Norris smiled. He was still in front, he closed the door on me a little. You can't expect him to give you space."
Despite everything, the weekend remains positive for McLaren who again scored big points this Sunday with Oscar Piastri also taking third place. It was still a very good weekend for us. It's obviously not the position we wanted to have at the finish, but once again Max and Red Bull They deserve their victory. They are fast and we, as a team, did not do enough."
Lando Norris and McLaren will have the chance to take their revenge next weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Piastri can say the same thing, having missed out on sector 1 in qualifying, even though his sectors 2 and 3 were faster than Verstappen's during his stratospheric lap. It's a shame Stella and Brown didn't ask for a position reversal at the end of the race so that a faster Piastri could go and take on Verstappen, even if it meant giving the position back to Norris if he failed!

This is the danger I was talking about for McLaren. They let their drivers share the victories while all of RBR's will go to Verstappen. McLaren will have no choice but to designate a leader, and quickly. This leader must be Norris because he has the experience of fighting for the title last year. Piastri is still only in the phase of his career that consists of taking advantage of the opportunities for victory or podium finishes that present themselves. Letting him take points from his teammate is a big risk of offering the title to Verstappen on a plate. Ultimately, the situation at this level has not changed much compared to last year.
