Norris complained a few moments before returning to the pits about the presence of a lot of debris at the chicane in sector 3 of the Miami circuit. The Briton was clearly trying to get a safety car, which would have allowed him to not lose places, or even better, after having to stay one lap too many on the track on intermediate tires. By the time he was able to enter the pit lane, one lap after his teammate Oscar piastri, the long-awaited Safety Car arrived, in the form of a collision between Liam Lawson and Fernando Alonso.
Oscar Piastri being slowed down by this intervention of theAston Martin Vantage, Lando Norris was able to take the lead of the Grand Prix as he exited the pit lane. A similar situation to the one he was able to take advantage of to win his first Grand Prix last year at the same venue in Formula 1. As he got out of his car, the Briton obviously referred to this double dose of luck, while preferring that it happened again on Sunday rather than Saturday!
“I seem to be pretty lucky in Miami at the moment, so I’m happy about that! The pace was still really good, these races are tough because you never know when to pit. Doing it early benefited me. Lewis Hamilton (third. Ed.), and he had a good strategy, but sometimes staying longer on the track pays off because a Safety Car comes out. It worked two years in a row, but I would have preferred it to happen on Sunday, clearly!
After having to settle for third place in the sprint qualifying session this Friday, the Briton hopes to at least make it to the front row this Saturday. The qualifying session, which is expected to be held entirely on a dry track, will begin at 22 p.m. French time and will be available to follow live on AUTOhebdo.fr.
"I'm happy, the team is doing a very good job, it was a good race. The plan is to take pole and then win, but it's not easy because there are some guys who are fast. I felt comfortable on Friday, but I made some small mistakes. I'm ready to get back into it."
