Lando Norris: “A very good experience”

With its future sealed for 2018, Lando Norris could approach his new driving session with McLaren without pressure. The Briton, European champion of F3 and second in Macau, was able to find the MCL32 yesterday, which carried the Honda engine for the last time.

Lando Norris was indeed able to try his hand at piloting the car English during the summer during the tests organized on the Hungaroring. But this time, the young McLaren protégé believes he has obtained better sensations.

« It was a very good day, admits Norris. I'm quite tired after 118 laps, but everything has been positive and it feels good to have accumulated so many laps. We went through everything on the agenda and had no problems.

It was the first time I did long runs in the car, which helped me get a better feeling in the cockpit compared to the Hungarian test, as well as learn more about the car and the tires. The pace was pretty good.

Generally, it gave me a very good experience and I am very positive about how the day went. I'm happy, my engineers are happy, I learned what I needed to learn, I improved throughout the day and I really enjoyed it.

Now I look forward to working with the team over the winter to help them develop the new car for next year. »

McLaren will experience an intense winter with the transition from the V6 turbo / hybrid Honda block to Renault. Lando Norris will combine his position as McLaren reserve driver in 2018 with his commitment to the FIA F2 with Carlin. The title remains the major objective of the British driver after his coronation in F3.
