Long live Las Vegas! Forty years later, the city of sin will once again welcome the Formula 1. As announced in recent weeks and notably in the columns of AUTOhebdo N°2355 a few days ago, F1 and the promoter Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority have reached an agreement to hold a Grand Prix in the streets of the world gaming capital from 2023. This once again confirms the growing interest in the discipline in the United States with a 3e GP on the calendar after those in Austin and Miami.

The 50-lap race will take place at night on a Saturday in November, potentially during the Thanksgiving weekend (23rd to 25th) for this first edition since 1982 and the victory of Michele Alboreto (Tyrrell-Ford). The 6,12 kilometer circuit will extend along the Las Vegas Strip (a portion of Las Vegas Boulevard) and will allow drivers to pass in front of the city's most famous buildings such as Caesars Palace, the Bellagio and its fountains or still the replica of the Eiffel Tower. In total, 14 bends and 3 straights make up the American route where speeds should exceed 340 km/h.

« This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 which demonstrates the enormous appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the United States, rejoices F1 boss Stefano Domenicali. Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its entertainment, hospitality, thrills and, of course, its famous Strip. There is no better place for Formula 1 than the entertainment capital of the world and we can't wait to see you next year. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this event happen.."

With this confirmation, Las Vegas becomes the 24e date on a calendar that continues to grow year after year. Note that the figure should not be exceeded since the Concorde Agreements, signed in August 2020, do not allow this number of Grands Prix to be exceeded in a single season. We will therefore have to wait until the 2026 campaign to see a 25e round, or even more, to be an integral part of F1.

And one more Tilkerie on the calendar! It's a shame that countries with a strong automotive and F1 culture like South Africa, Argentina, Sweden and New Zealand won't join the calendar... strongly attracted by hard dollars! Soon F1 will compete with NASCAR in terms of the number of meetings?
