The suspense remains to know if Lewis Hamilton will be able to start the 3rd Sprint of the year, organized this weekend in Brazil, from the head of the grid.
The stewards of the Interlagos meeting have in fact decided to postpone their decision until Saturday morning, São Paulo time, because they are waiting for new evidence.
After the qualifying session, dominated by Hamilton in front of his rival Red Bull Max Verstappen, FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer noted an anomaly with the removable rear wing of the English driver's W12.
When deployed, Hamilton's DRS visibly opened to a space greater than 85 mm, which represents a violation of article 3.6.3 of the technical regulations of the discipline.
La Mercedes No44 was not the only car tested with the removable rear wing system. This was also the case for single-seaters 77, 33, 11, 03, 04, 05, 14, 16, 55, 22, 10, 47 and 63. All were judged to be compliant.
It is beneficial to note that the commissioners want to allow themselves all the necessary time before making a decision which could have a colossal impact on the outcome of the world championship. Hamilton actually has a disbursement of 19 points over Verstappen in the Drivers' standings at 4 Grands Prix and 1 Sprint round at the end of the 2021 season.
However, we can wonder if this postponement would not have a link with the video that appeared on social networks and showing Verstappen physically inspecting the rear wing of Hamilton's Mercedes?
