Max Verstappen surely didn't expect to experience such a difficult Grand Prix at Silverstone. Qualified in 2e position, the Batavian was in ambush to impose himself. While the first start had been favorable to him, the Dutchman had not managed to overtake Carlos Sainz one hour later. The world champion then waited patiently for an error from the Spaniard.

Max Verstappen then took the opportunity to take the lead at Silverstone. But that was without counting an unfortunate episode on the 12the round. “ Carlos went off and I took the lead. Then at the end of turn 5 there was a piece of carbon and with the angle of the turn I went for it, it was there and I couldn't avoid it. It was impossible not to hit her with the car, so I tried to hit her as gently as possible. », Explains Max Verstappen at the microphone of Canal +.

The Dutchman was far from suspecting that this lap was going to be the end of his race and the beginning of a long ordeal. After passing through the pit lane, the driver Red Bull tried to leave, but it was impossible to resist. “ The piece damaged my floor. All of a sudden it was broken and with these cars the floors are so important to generate downforce and I lost a lot of lap time », analyzes Max Verstappen.

A battle for 7th place between Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher

Totally out of rhythm with his competitors, the world champion railed on the radio for a long time, but he had one objective, to succeed in bringing home points. A mission that he fulfilled at the cost of great battles like in the last round with Mick Schumacher. " It was difficult, but of course I was driving a broken car and it was very difficult. I had a lot of problems with the balance of the car », says the world champion. Max Verstappen will nevertheless be able to reassure himself at Silverstone. Its main competitor for the title finished in 4th place while Ferrari could have done a double in Great Britain.
