It’s been in the air for a few days, it’s now official! There F1 will not travel to Canada from June 11 to 13. As in 2020, the Grand Prix on the Gilles-Villenuve circuit was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In discussions, the public health of Montreal and that of Quebec ultimately did not find an agreement for the return of Formula 1 to Canadian lands. F1, for its part, tried to sell its health protocol (hotels reserved exclusively for staff, private transport, etc.) to local authorities, in vain.
BREAKING: Turkey joins the 2021 calendar in place of Canada on June 11-13

« We are grateful to the promoter and the authorities of Canada, Quebec and Montreal for all the efforts made in recent weeks to ensure that the race takes place. », We can read in the press release where we learn of the extension of the partnership with Canada for two years.
To compensate for this new cancellation, two circuits were ready to organize the replacement Grand Prix: Istanbul Park in Turkey and Hockenheim in Germany. The first finally won.
Its many advantages - such as its geographical proximity to Baku where the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is held a week earlier - have worked in its favor. Thus, Istanbul Park will once again welcome F1 just a few months after its big return to Turkey (last November. Editor’s note).
« Although we are disappointed not to be traveling to Canada this season we are happy to confirm that Turkey will host a Grand Prix after an incredible race last year, admits Stefano Domenicali, boss of F1. I know all our fans are excited for the start of the 2021 season and Turkey has a perfect circuit for battles ».
No change in dates. The Turkish Grand Prix will be held from June 11 to 13 instead of that of Canada.
