The AlphaTauri clan highlights a lack of performance of the AT01

Completing the good qualification of the French on Saturday with a seventh place on the grid behind Esteban Ocon (Renault) 5th, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) had thus reached the first Q3 of his season for the Styrian Grand Prix.

Lively in the rain, the Norman hoped to produce a similar performance in the dry, having taken 7th place in these types of conditions a week earlier at the Austrian Grand Prix. But a contact with the Renault of Daniel Ricciardo at the start of the race undermined the Frenchman's hopes.

“I had contact with Daniel at turn 1 and almost spun, explains the AlphaTauri driver, speaking in particular on Canal +. Afterwards, it was very difficult, and the back of the car was a little strange (with damage as specified by Jody Egginton, technical director of Faenza training).

We saw from the first laps that it was going to be complicated. We tried what we could with the two-stop strategy, but we just didn't have the pace. We will have to look at all the work accomplished and I think there are a lot of positives and I hope we can find a little more performance for Budapest. »

Small consolation for AlphaTauri, Daniil Kvyat was able to bring home the point for 10th place, despite an AT01 below the expectations of the Faenza management.

« We should be happy to finish in the points, but overall we expected more from our package today and a detailed analysis will be conducted to ensure we understand all the factors behind today's performance and address the key points before the next race. » analyzes Jody Egginton.
