The FIA World Council for F1

The FIA has validated several points of the sporting and technical regulations for the next two seasons F1. In 2013, the FIA will be stricter in terms of the rigidity of the front wing of single-seaters. It will also make minor changes to the anti-rollover structure. The minimum weight will be lowered to compensate for the higher weight of the tires. The curfew imposed on team personnel will be extended from six to eight hours on Thursday evening and the teams will only have two jokers compared to four previously. The FIA also confirmed that DRS would only be activated in areas designated for racing during free practice sessions and qualifying. Finally, the German Grand Prix will be brought forward to July 7, leaving the weekend of July 21 free for another European event (Turkey is expected to join the 2013 calendar).

The use of electric energy alone to travel the pit lane, which was originally planned for 2014, will finally be postponed until 2017. The FIA also mentions “changes in the regulations for future engine blocks (V6 1.6l turbo) have been adopted in order to limit the technology in certain points and thus limit development costs”. The bodies will also evolve in 2014 to reduce aerodynamic downforce and drag. Finally, unlike next season, the weight will be readjusted to compensate for the extra power offered by the new engines.
