Dr. Helmut Marko defends Kvyat

Daniil Kvyat seems on borrowed time at Red Bull. The Russian was replaced by Max Verstappen and had to return to the second team Toro Rosso and struggles to stand out against his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr.

While Daniil Kvyat appears to be in an ejection seat facing Pierre Gasly who stands out in the GP2 Series, Dr. Helmut Marko seeks to put an end to the criticism made against the Toro Rosso driver.

“At the moment, whenever something goes wrong, it’s for Daniil’s car and it wouldn’t be fair to judge him for what’s happened so far.”, said the Austrian on Sky Sports.

The Italian Grand Prix was not a cakewalk for Daniil Kvyat who retired after suffering a damaged bottom and an overheated battery following a collision at the first corner.

“He was unlucky again last weekend. This time, it was in qualifying when he had Grosjean on his way. It didn't get any better in the race and this bad luck needs to end. We will make our decision when we have all the information”, added the Red Bull advisor and head of the Junior Team sector.

“Kvyat will have an opportunity to return and we won't choose the driver for next year's Toro Rosso until mid-October”, said the Austrian.
