Chinese GP officially postponed

The coronavirus epidemic which is raging in China in particular foreshadowed a postponement of the Chinese GP scheduled for April 19 on the Shanghai circuit. The postponement of the event was confirmed by the FIA which did not reveal a later date.

“The promoter of the Chinese GP, Juss Sports Group, has officially requested that the race be postponed, informed the Federation. The FIA and the F1 have decided to accept this official request from the promoters and postpone the Chinese Grand Prix. Due to health concerns and the WHO treating coronavirus as a global health emergency, the FIA and F1 have taken these measures to ensure the safety of staff, participants and the public. »

If the Chinese GP is postponed, there is no guarantee that the event will be able to take place this year due to the already busy F1 calendar and the measures that need to be put in place for the event to take place at a later date.

“The FIA and F1 continue to work closely with teams, promoters and local authorities to assess the situation. We will take the time necessary to explore the viability of potential alternative dates later in the year if the situation improves. »

“The Chinese GP is an important part of the F1 calendar with many passionate spectators. The F1 community will look to race in China as soon as possible and wish the country's citizens the best during these difficult times. The FIA will continue to monitor the situation, including for other motorsport events. »

China has already canceled many events in its country and this postponement is just adding to the list. To date, more than 45 people have been infected with the coronavirus, including 000 in China.
