The French GP moves further away from Flins

The return of a French event to the world championship calendar F1 now seems more than hypothetical. In any case, the landing point of this future ring is still unknown, and its choice is more than complicated. Several projects competed this winter. Between a return to Magny-Cours, an installation around the Disneyland Park, construction projects in Flins, Sarcelles and Satory, various points of view were faced. Supported by Bernard Laporte, the Flins project is favored by the Secretary of State for Sport. But, from the start, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Jean-Louis Borloo, has opposed the Yvelines circuit. And behind him, several associations worried about the impacts of this project on the environment.

This Wednesday, the minister reaffirmed his intention not to support the construction of this circuit and to oppose it, according to the associations. For two reasons: the project is located above the second highest water table in Ile de France and the presence of an organic cereal farm. Therefore, with strong opposition, Borloo being number 2 in the government, the Flins project seems to have too many opponents to get off the ground. According to the associations, Jean-Louis Borloo affirmed that, as long as he was in office, this circuit would not see the light of day in Yvelines.

« We welcome this unequivocal position of Jean-Louis Borloo, Michel Lecat, president of the association against F1 in Flins, told AFP. But we are aware that he is not necessarily going to be in this position forever and that we must not let up the pressure. » An agreement between all the players on a viable project is therefore not yet on the agenda, just like the return to France of an F1 Grand Prix.
