The Miami GP is already generating great enthusiasm

If further proof were needed that the Formula 1 is booming in the United States, just take a look at the ticket requests for the first Miami Grand Prix in history, scheduled for May 6-8, 2022.

During a conference call with investors intended to discuss Liberty Media's good financial results in the 3rd quarter of 2021, Greg Maffei, CEO of the F1 commercial rights holder, declared that 275 people had pre-registered to buy tickets. And this while the Miami International Autodrome currently under construction will only be able to accommodate 000.

Obviously, the high prices charged have not dampened the fans' enthusiasm since 1 people have already deposited a deposit of 800 dollars (around 5 euros) to reserve a VIP box.

F1 has just had a record weekend in the USA with a historic attendance of 400 people at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin (Texas) last week. Maffei was delighted to learn that 000% of the fans present were attending their first Grand Prix, while this proportion is usually around 70%.

Following the Texas event, George Russell made a detour to Florida to take a look at the progress of work at Hard Rock Stadium, the sports complex which will house the future Florida track.

« I can not wait to be there, commented the future pilot Mercedes from Mexico where F1 is happening this week. Miami is a very cool city, I think we will have a fantastic weekend there, like in Austin.

The circuit has an urban DNA with long straight lines which will allow overtaking. I was able to do a few laps on a simulator that was on site, it was very nice.

I didn't realize I was on the route during my visit. There are still quite a few developments to be made but they showed me the plans and it is very promising.

As I said, I discovered the track on a simulator and the layout looks fluid and fast with tight corners and long straights which will offer great overtaking opportunities.

I think they did a great job given the constraints linked to the typology of the land ».

By its nature, the Florida project may recall the (mixed) memory of the F1 races organized in the parking lot of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas (Nevada) during the 1980 and 1981 seasons.

Michael Masi, FIA race director, assures that the event “ will be anything but a race organized in a parking lot ". " It's a real circuit which will have benefited from a lot of work in many areas, added the Australian. The installations are taking shape and everything will form something unique ».

Verdict next year under the sun Sunshine State.
