Will the Miami GP finally see the light of day?

The Miami Grand Prix expected in 2019 seemed well on its way to being validated in the next F1 calendar, but the project seems to have taken a hit in recent days.

Stephanie Severino, deputy deputy at Miami's communications office, confirmed in Forbes that the finalization contract was not signed within the time limit imposed by the city's municipal council even though the latter voted unanimously to welcome the F1.

The delay could come from opponents of the plan for such an event. The 4,18km route was to be located towards Bayfront Park where the majority of residents do not seem to be in favor of the project.

“The developer’s representatives let us know that this was not our park, that it belonged to everyone. Sometimes we think exactly that, but our conclusion is different: if it's a park for everyone, companies don't have to close it for their profits, unless residents see this closure as something positive for public space », commented Andres Althabe, president of the Biscayne Neighborhoods Association.

Liberty Media, the owner of the Championship, wants to strengthen the presence of F1 in the USA which already has a Grand Prix with Austin (Texas) and increase the number of races.
