The Monaco GP and the Indy 500 without a date clash in 2021

The 24 Hours of Le Mans are considered one of the three biggest races in motorsport. Usually contested during June, the Sarthe double clock has the advantage of benefiting from great media interest.

The situation is more complicated for the organizers of the Monaco GP and the Indy 500. Contested on two continents, the events have the particularity of taking place on the same day for several years. In fact, we have to go back to 2010 for the two races to take place on different dates. There F1 and its dense calendar have often encroached on the Indianapolis 500 since a Grand Prix has always taken place on the same weekend as the Indianapolis event since 2003.

“We’re going to have three races in the space of a month. This will be a first for us at the ACM, confided Christian Tornatore, the general commissioner of the Automobile Club of Monaco. The logistics will be complex but not impossible to manage. With these new constraints, we will have to start our on-track preparations earlier than usual, at the end of February, instead of March 15. »

The 2021 Monaco GP will be scheduled for May 23 while the Indy 500 is expected to take place a week later.
