The GPDA now brings together all the drivers involved in F1

The Pilots Association Formula 1 (Grand Prix Drivers' Association, GPDA) is now full. The group's president, Austrian Alexander Wurz, welcomed this progress: “This is probably the first time in the history of the GPDA that all the drivers entered in F1 have joined us” explained the former pilot Williams F1 at BBC Sports website.

The GPDA, founded in May 1961 by the Briton Stirling Moss and the Swede Jo Bonnier, has an advisory role with the governing bodies of F1. Its objective is to defend the rights of pilots. This gathering takes place according to Alexander Wurz in a context of new winds for F1, with the renewal of the Concorde Agreements planned for 2020 as well as a overhaul of the engine regulations led by new owners Liberty Media. “Our sport is entering a period of evolution, change and perhaps even upheaval. The pilots understood that they had to unite and be represented in order to face this challenge. They know that unity is fundamental to the success of sport. »

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) were notably missing last year. Now, with twenty affiliated drivers, the GPDA could have an increased influence on the life of F1. “The GPDA simply asks that sport can remain at the heart of everyone's attention. Each adjustment to this discipline must be made and carried out in the best sporting interest, and not to satisfy any individual interest., concludes Alexander Wurz.
