The 2021 French Grand Prix brought forward by a week

It’s a last minute change that the organizers of the French Grand Prix would have done well without. Certainly, the Formula 1 will go to Castellet (Var) this season but the French round, initially scheduled for June 25 to 27, has been brought forward by one week and will now be held from June 18 to 20.

The Circuit event at Paul Ricard is the collateral victim of a domino effect triggered by the cancellation of the Turkish Grand Prix (June 11-13).

Sensing the opportunity, Austria pushed hard to organize 2 events on the Red Bull Ring, as it had already done, successfully let us emphasize, last year to relaunch a 2020 season of which we did not really know how it would be able to resume.

Obviously, what Red Bull wants, Red Bull gets, and the confirmation of the Styrian GP on the dates initially reserved for France reflects the little consideration given to our national meeting, as much as its little room for maneuver in the face of promoters richly endowed. Can we imagine Baku agreeing to change its dates to please someone else? Asking the question is already answering it.

Tickets purchased for the weekend of June 25 to 27 will be valid for the new date of the French Grand Prix.

« We were looking forward to racing in Turkey but the travel restrictions in place did not allow it in June, explains Stefano Domenicali, CEO of the F1 Group. Formula 1 has shown once again that it is capable of reacting quickly to the evolving health situation and finding solutions and we are delighted to have a doubleheader in Austria which keeps our season at 23 races.

I would like to thank the promoter (from the Turkish Grand Prix) and the local authorities for all their efforts in recent weeks as well as the French and Austrian developers for their speed, flexibility and enthusiasm in finding solutions ».
