The 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix behind closed doors or nothing

The empty stands of the Hungaroring before the spectacle of the Hungarian Grand Prix Formula 1, this is the scenario favored by those responsible for the circuit. In question, the announcement by the Hungarian government to ban events bringing together more than 500 people until August 15 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event, scheduled for July 30 to August 2, should be held behind closed doors. “The Hungaroring team has been in regular contact with Formula 1 to explore all possible ways of presenting the 35th Hungarian Grand Prix with the public, states a press release published this Friday, May 1st.

However, in light of the government's decision, this is unfortunately no longer possible. The health and well-being of all our Formula 1 fans, staff and championship participants remains our primary concern throughout this period and for this reason we have unfortunately had no other choice. »

Even if the health situation improves in Eastern Europe, spectators will still be prohibited from entering. " It is now clear that any F1 race in Hungary can now only take place behind closed doors.

Although not an ideal scenario, we believe that holding the event behind closed doors – which our fans can still watch on television – is preferable to no racing. »
