2020 Monaco Grand Prix canceled

The Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM) announced this Thursday that the 78th edition of the Monaco Grand Prix could not take place due to the health situation and the Coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier in the day, Liberty Media announced the postponement of the Dutch, Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix. Given the logistics involved in the arrival of Formula 1 in the streets of the Principality, the decision is not surprising. The ACM also informs that the historic Grand Prix, scheduled for May 8 to 10, is not being maintained.

« The health situation, the evolution of which cannot be predicted, the lack of visibility on the modalities of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the uncertainty of the participation of all the teams, the consequences of the measures taken by the various Governments, confinement, cross-border difficulties in accessing the Principality of Monaco, the fear that companies, reluctantly, will not be able to cope with the installation of the installations, the availability of employees, volunteers (more than 1500), necessary for its implementation , make the situation no longer objectively controllable, writes the ACM in a press release.

Consequently, given this serious situation, it is with the greatest sadness that the Steering Committee of the AUTOMOBILE CLUB DE MONACO has taken the decision to cancel the 12th HISTORIC MONACO GRAND PRIX (May 8-10, 2020) and the 78th FORMULA 1 MONACO GRAND PRIX of the FIA World Championship (May 21-24, 2020).

To all spectators, partners, members of the Organization, the Steering Committee expresses its deep regrets and under no circumstances will it be possible to postpone these two events... »

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt the F1 calendar.
