Dutch Grand Prix still under threat of cancellation

The 2021 calendar Formula 1 risks being turned upside down again. If a few weeks ago, the Australian and Singapore Grands Prix were officially canceled, it is a European race that could go by the wayside. The Netherlands announced this Monday a series of measures to curb the Covid-19 epidemic in the country. Until September 1, music festivals taking place over several days are simply prohibited. Those that were planned for August will therefore not take place.

There remains the question of the Dutch Grand Prix. Already canceled last year, the Zandvoort circuit is supposed to host the F1 circus from September 03 to 05. A question mark which worries the organizers who have already announced that the Grand Prix would not take place if it had to be behind closed doors. A government decision concerning the holding of the thirteenth round of the season is expected on August 13.

Small reason for hope, relaxations will be put in place from this Tuesday in the Netherlands. These measures concern the authorization to travel to all countries of the European Union, several of which were still prohibited for the Dutch until now. In addition, outdoor sporting events are considered differently than festivals and an exemption could take place in order to organize the Dutch Grand Prix without gauges. To be continued.
