La F1 Although it had announced with great fanfare its intention to further regionalise its F1 calendar, not everything had been optimised in recent seasons. The best example of the remaining room for improvement was precisely the positioning of the Canadian Grand Prix, which required the paddock to go to America (in Miami, on 5th May), before returning to Europe for two rounds (Imola, Monaco), returning to the American continent in Canada (9th June), and finally returning to Europe again.
Last week, F1 announced the extension of the Monaco Grand Prix until 2031, along with a change of date. From 2026, the princely event will be held on the first weekend of June, instead of the last weekend of May in recent years. On Monday, Formula 1 announced that the promoter of the Canadian Grand Prix had agreed to bring forward the staging of its Grand Prix to streamline the calendar and make it more sustainable.
Integral part of a global strategy
Thus, from 2026, the Canadian Grand Prix is expected to be scheduled on the third or fourth weekend in May. This change will allow the European portion of the season to be consolidated into a single consecutive period during the European summer months and eliminate an additional transatlantic crossing for the Formula 1 community each year, resulting in significant carbon emission reductions.
The announcement follows on from F1’s previous changes to the calendar in recent years to streamline it. The Japanese Grand Prix has been moved to the spring to align with races in the Asia-Pacific region, while Azerbaijan has been moved to the autumn as the championship turns east to Singapore. Qatar has also been moved to align closely with Abu Dhabi at the end of the year.

May or June, it's spring in Canada, it shouldn't have much impact on the weather except the water temperature in the Olympic pool which should be cooler in May! Be careful for those who are going to end up in the pool...
