Canadian Grand Prix postponed

« We would have been honored to present the very first round of the World Championship of Formula 1 2020, but we regret to announce in turn the postponement of the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix scheduled for June 12, 13 and 14. » It is with these few words that the organizers announced the postponement of their event, making the French Grand Prix, scheduled for June 28, the possible opening round of the coming season.

« Over the past month, we have been in constant communication with members of Formula 1 as well as representatives of the city of Montreal, Tourisme Montréal and levels of provincial and federal governments and we have heard the directives issued by officials public health, can also be read in the press release. As a direct result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are complying with the recommendations of authoritative experts. »

François Dumontier, President and CEO Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada states for his part that he is “ proud to see all the initiatives and technological advancements coming from Formula 1 during this period of crisis. At this time, it is essential to concentrate all our efforts on countering Covid-19. We will be ready to welcome you with open arms to the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit as soon as the situation allows. »

Words of wisdom from François Dumontier, who has the honor of being at the head of one of the most popular events of the year and which fans hope will simply be postponed.

« We have been working closely with our friends at the Canadian Grand Prix for several weeks to support them in this necessary decision-making which ensures the safety of fans and the F1 community, underlines Chase Carey, President and CEO of the FOM. We always look forward to going to this wonderful city that is Montreal and even if we have to wait a little longer before our arrival, we will put on a grandiose show a little later this year. »

The tickets obviously remain valid for the new date that F1 and the promoters hope to find for this event. All spectators will then be informed of all the options available to them.
