Will the VAG group get involved soon?

Following the call for tenders launched by the FIA a few days ago (see here), le groupe VAG, qui possède entre autre les marques Volkswagen, Audi et Porsche, a été au centre des rumeurs pour un éventuel engagement en F1.

The first brand of the group that would be likely to get involved could be Volkswagen (see here). For his return to WRC this year, the Wolfsburg brand has established itself both at the driver level, with Sébastien Ogier, than in the constructor's championship. It therefore seems unlikely that VW would invest in the flagship championship of car as Stefan Moser confirms.

“We have no plans to enter Formula 1,” declared the communications director for Volkswagen to our colleagues at Speed Week.

Second brand of the VAG group, Audi has enjoyed numerous successes in endurance and could possibly be interested in occupying the place of the twelfth F1 team by 2015-2016. But, like VW, the communications director of the brand with the rings, Jurgen Pippig, was keen to thwart the rumors.

“We are focused on our programs at Le Mans and in DTM, we don?t have a plan for Formula 1,” he revealed.

Finally, Porsche, another brand of the group could potentially enter F1 but with its commitment to WEC and at Le Mans from 2014, the Stuttgart manufacturer would certainly have no interest in diversifying.

This is what Moser and Pippig?s counterpart, Oliver Hilger, confirmed: “In 2014, Porsche begins the largest project dedicated to competition in its history, we do not plan to enter Formula 1,” he concluded.

If the commitment of a large group like VAG would be well received by the small world of F1, it therefore seems unlikely to see the Germans come and rub shoulders with Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull in the near future? Remember that the call for tenders launched by the Fédération Internationale de l?Automobile will end on January 3 for a decision made official at the end of February.
