The Hungaroring is undergoing a complete metamorphosis six months before the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix

Assured of being on the Formula 1 calendar until 2032, the Hungaroring circuit - which has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986 - is undergoing major works to modernise the paddock and the main grandstands.

The winter break not only allows drivers to rest and teams to prepare for the coming season: it also allows circuits to start work to welcome back the Formula 1 for the upcoming campaign. This winter, it is certainly the Hungaroring circuit that is undergoing the most significant work of all. The track located near Budapest, which has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986, is in a phase of intense transformation that began just after the Hungarian round organized in July 2024 (which saw Oscar piastri to win for the first time in F1) and which will end at the beginning of summer 2025.

The first works had even started in 2023, with a first phase completed in May 2024, including the widening of the paddock and the creation of two tunnels under the start/finish straight to improve the flow of the crowd in the enclosure. Since the resumption of the work in the summer of 2024, 620 people have been working every day on the Hungaroring to ensure that the Hungarian circuit is ready for the weekend of August 1-3, 2025, for the next Hungarian Grand Prix.

This second phase of work aims in particular at the renovation and complete modernization of the main grandstand on the start-finish straight, but also the construction of a completely new paddock with new garages in particular. Six months before Formula 1 returns to Hungarian soil, Hungaroring shared some figures on these major works. Since the resumption of the work in the summer of 2024, 23 m3 of concrete were poured and 7 tonnes of reinforcing steel were installed.

The circuit indicates that as of 10 January 2025, construction of the vertical structure of the 3rd floor of the paddock building is underway in some areas, while on the main stand, 100% of the precast reinforced concrete beams and almost 50% of the stand elements have been installed, and the staircase elements are currently being installed. Nearly 759 m2 of masonry structures were built, 22 km of protection tubes and 80 km of lining tubes were laid in the area surrounding the route, including 20 km of electrical cables.

At the end of the works – which will last until 2026 and will therefore resume after the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix – the Hungaroring should resemble the projections revealed below. A welcome modernization, since Hungary to remain on Formula 1 calendar until 2032.

OK to improve the conditions for welcoming the teams and the paddock because they were starting to date a little... but no improvement to give more spice to the famous Hungaroring turnstile which was, in 1986 thanks to Uncle Bernie, the very first Grand Prix behind the "iron curtain"?
