Paul Ricard and Barcelona, the good students in terms of ecology

Ecology is now a major issue in motorsport. There F1, for example, constantly reminds us that it wants to go zero carbon by 2030. But this is not the only initiative to improve a subject so much criticized by the general public. The planet's circuits are also changing their infrastructure in order to be more responsible towards the planet.
Enovation Consulting and Right Hub have also just published a book entitled “ Sustainable Circuits Index » in which 96 circuits are rated in relation to the ecological efforts observed from year to year.

“Motor sport is often the victim of green-washing, explains Cristiana Pace, member of the FIA Environment and Sustainable Development Commission. Our report provides a truly solid assessment. The data communicated comes from a well-structured framework and makes it possible to see the performance of the circuits in terms of ecological sustainability. The objective is also to compare ourselves with each other to accelerate actions.”

Among the F1 circuits, the good students are the Barcelona circuits and (cocorico): Paul Ricard! They obtain a final score of 3 out of 4. Here, in comparison, are the scores of the other circuits which make up the calendar for the 2021 F1 season. 0 being the lowest rating, 4 being the highest.

The best circuit in the world in terms of ecology is Mugello. Among the innovations put in place, we find a rainwater recovery system and the provision of fountains for staff and fans in order to avoid the use of plastic bottles. The energy is 100% renewable thanks to solar panels. The Italian circuit also produces 25% of its annual energy demand using solar panels. For others, there is still work to do.
