The worst of Mercedes GP

Just one small point. Such is the meager record of Mercedes GP at the end of the last European Grand Prix. However, the leaders of the German team had announced a notable development in Spain. Improvements intended to allow the star firm to get closer to McLaren et Red Bull. At first glance, it?s a failure?

Just like his teammate, Nico Rosberg failed to advance to Q3, a first this season, ultimately qualifying in a very disappointing 12th position.

In the race, the son of the world champion F1 1982 took the gamble of stopping very early, on the eighth lap. A strategy that could have paid off. But the intervention of the safety car did not allow Rosberg to take any advantage from this daring tactic. Following the penalties inflicted on numerous drivers, he finally finished tenth, thereby collecting a small point. Small consolation.

?It wasn?t a great race and I didn?t enjoy it, says the driver of the W01 n°4. I struggled to find grip throughout the race, and had to manage to keep my brakes which did not allow me to try to gain positions. But we tried to find positive elements because you always learn from such a situation, and draw lessons from it for the future. It was a difficult weekend for us and we will try to resolve these issues.”

A sad observation shared by Ross Brawn.

?Today?s race produced a very disappointing result for us, continues the Briton. The car performed quite well today but we suffered from our poor qualifying, which is a problem we need to resolve as quickly as possible?

Until then, Mercedes GP's worst overall result was six points collected in Monaco. In Valencia, the team hit rock bottom. Poor performance of Schumacher, W01 unable to follow the leading cars. The Germans look grim. We will have to work hard to get things back on track by Silverstone next week.
