Among the disappointments of the first part of the season, we can easily cite Williams. The British team failed to build on its good momentum in 2023 and was relegated to the bottom of the table against Sauber and Alpine. An eventful start to the campaign including the story of the lack of spare chassis during the first rounds, notably at the Australian Grand Prix where Logan Sargeant had to give up his car to Alexander Albon. As a result, at mid-season, Williams only collected four points, a meager record which places the Grove team in 9th position in the Manufacturers' standings.
Developments to relaunch the Williams machine
Unfortunately, the lack of spare parts was not Williams' only problem at the start of the year. The FW46 has long been well above the minimum weight of 798kg, and this has affected its performance, which unfortunately Alexander albon.
“I think it's fair to say we're a little disappointed with what we expected, he said in a video posted by Williams. I feel like part of me knows that if we were at weight at the start of the year, we would have scored quite a few points, I think. We were just behind but the car is good. It has clearly improved compared to last year but we were held back by a couple of things and the delays obviously didn't help. »
“The development of the car is going in the right direction, but everything is relative... everyone has improved, and I think we expected to take a bigger step forward than what we did, adds Logan sargeant, who has still not scored a single point this season. However, we will have developments after the summer break, which could put us back in the right direction. »
Developments which could also help Williams against its direct competitors from Alpine : at the start of the school year, the French clan only has a seven-point lead over the British team.
