After a weekend of rest following a double headers between Australia and China, the Formula 1 returns to Japan for the third round of the season. Since its first appearance in 1987, the Suzuka circuit has become a must have, adored by the pilots, notably thanks to the esses of its first sector, very impressive in on-board camera.
The circuit has 18 turns spread over 5 meters, including the legendary 807R, a left turn taken at full throttle in which Fernando Alonso had risked an overtaking as daring as it was superb on Michael SchumacherSuzuka had also been the scene of bitter clashes when it was run at the end of the season, notably between Cheers and Senna. In 1990, the Brazilian won his second title after a collision with his former teammate at the first corner.
Thirty-five years later, the Japanese Grand Prix will be held for the 35th time at Suzuka since the first edition in 1987. Six-time winner Michael Schumacher is the record holder for success on the only eight-track circuit on the calendar ahead of Lewis Hamilton (5), who will have the opportunity to equal him and win his first Grand Prix with Ferrari, two weeks after winning the Shanghai sprint race.
To do this, the British will have to tame the speedy ones McLaren who shone in the first two rounds of the season: Lando Norris took it to Australia and Oscar piastri dominated the 56-lap race in China. The two men will engage in another duel in hopes of gaining the advantage over each other. To witness this battle, you'll have to get up early to follow an early morning Grand Prix, which will start at 7 a.m. French time.
