The program for the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix

The Pilots title may have already been acquired by Max Verstappen, the fact remains that there is a championship to finish in this long and intense 2024 season of Formula 1 ! After the lights of Las Vegas, head to the Losail desert for the Qatar GP, the 23rd and penultimate round of the year. The Persian Gulf peninsula is hosting F1 for the third time in its history, with a Sprint format – the last of the season – as in 2023.

Introduced to the calendar in 2021, the Qatar GP is held on the Losail track, in the middle of the desert. A 5,419-kilometre circuit, designed primarily for the MotoGP, with many high-speed corners that are extremely demanding on the tires. In 2023, F1 even had to set a limit on the number of laps on the same tires to avoid any drama, with very high temperatures on the track and in the air. Several drivers even felt unwell during and after the race!

This year, the Grand Prix is being held almost two months later, which should ensure cooler temperatures. There is only one DRS on this Losail track, on the start-finish straight. In the first two editions of the Qatari round, it was Lewis Hamilton (2021) and Max Verstappen (2023) who won. The Dutchman had even won the title in Qatar at the end of the Sprint race last year. The lap record in the race was set by the now four-time world champion, in 1'24″319.
