The promoter of the Canadian GP in the fold of a telecoms giant

Leader in telecommunications in Canada, the Bell company announced this Friday in an official press release “ having entered into an agreement to acquire the activities of the Montreal company Groupe de course Octane inc., the promoter of the Grand Prix of Formula 1 from Canada ».

Bell claims that the maneuver will ensure “ financial stability and additional investments needed to ensure long-term growth », of the event, the last 2 editions of which were canceled for health reasons.

The new effective promoter specifies that the Octane group “ will continue to operate as a standalone entity within the Bell group of companies to promote the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix ". François Dumontier, who until now was overseeing the destiny of the Montreal round of the F1 world championship, will still be involved.

« The Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix is the largest sporting and tourism event in the country, and it seemed natural for us to join forces with Bell so that the event could reach its full potential, said the president and CEO of Octane.

Thanks to Bell's assets and its commitment to developing the event, the future of the Montreal round of the Formula 1 World Championship is even brighter.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to pursue my passion with Formula 1 and to be able to create new opportunities for the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix with the support of a well-established company in Quebec and Canada. »

To compensate for the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 editions, the Canadian GP obtained a 2-year extension to its contract with the commercial rights holder, ensuring the presence of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on the calendar until 2031.
