The public accepted at the Portuguese Grand Prix?

Since its resumption at the end of June in Austria, the Formula 1 takes place without any spectators in the stands. The organizers of the Italian Grand Prix have also confirmed that the Monza meeting (September 4-6) will be held behind closed doors.

The doors to F1 circuits could, however, open by the end of the 2020 season. Those involved in the return of sport to Portugal seem very confident about the possibility of welcoming fans on the weekend of October 23 to 25 , in the Algarve region, where is the Portimao route located.

“We have been able to demonstrate that it is a safe destination, equipped with quality infrastructure and a diversified tourist offer which enriches the stay of visitors, indicates the President of the Algarve Tourism Office. The Algarve is capable of meeting the demanding standards required to host the premier motorsport competition. This is a very positive sign of confidence given to our region.”, adds João Fernandes, President of the Algarve Tourist Board.

The Portuguese Grand Prix is banking heavily on the arrival of F1 fans, who could make up for a difficult summer season for the country. The organization and spectators could generate 40 million euros in direct revenue, while indirect revenue is estimated at 80 million.

“This event could represent a week from August to October, which will ensure the activity of many businesses during the low season.", adds João Fernandes.
