Since the start of the week, the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy has been plagued by severe bad weather, leading to terrible flooding. Nyck de Vries despite being a pilot Formula 1, human beings are equal and equally powerless in the face of natural disasters and the distress of the inhabitants.
As a reminder, the Grand Prix which was supposed to be contested in Imola this Sunday was canceled by Formula 1, due to events occurring in the region. Firstly out of decency, but also because it would obviously have been inappropriate to request the presence of law enforcement and emergency services, at a time when the inhabitants of the region have never needed them so much. .
Nyck de Vries stuck in hotel with McLaren staff
Pile Alpha Tauri, Nyck de Vries was on his way on Tuesday evening, around 23:30 p.m., to try to reach Faenza, where a marketing day awaited him at the team's factory. On Instagram, he published the story of his aborted attempt, with chilling photos to back it up, also paying tribute to the local solidarity put in place.
“The rain is intense, Faenza is already flooded, and I cannot reach my hotel, detailed Nyck. Getting back on the highway is clearly not an option. I'm stuck in a small village where the only hotel available is full. Fortunately for me, McLaren got stuck there earlier and the mechanic in charge of the jack (tool used to raise cars during pit stops), Frazer, was kind enough to offer me his room.”

“The next morning, the hotel lobby was transformed into an emergency shelter for people who were forced to flee their homes during the night. I only saw one possible option to get home, and that was to drive through Florence, He explains. After an adventurous journey through the mountains, thanks to the help of local people and authorities in the different villages, I was finally able to return safely.”
And the Dutchman concludes. “Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to help me. It really warmed my heart to see so many people caring about each other. My thoughts are with all those who continue to be affected by this tragedy. I will soon be back in Faenza to reunite with my team and meet the people of the region.”
As a reminder, while the team was present at the Miami Grand Prix ten days ago, De Vries, tsunoda and the rest of the team had provided their support to Faenza, even though many employees had already lost everything during the first wave of bad weather that began two weeks ago.
