“That's where I got my very first podium, a long time ago now, in Formula Renault. And back then, the track was very different." Esteban Ocon speak well of Red Bull Ring, in Austria, where the paddock of the F1, this weekend, for the eleventh meeting of the 2025 season.
As a reminder, the Norman started in car, in 2012, in two different categories: Formula Renault 2.0 Alps and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. Then aged 16, he was a member of the Finnish team Koiranen Motorsport.
Thus, in September of that year, during the fifth round of the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps season taking place in Spielberg, Ocon finished the two races of the weekend in third position, at the same time securing the first two podiums of his single-seater career.
Ocon: "What hasn't changed is the incredible atmosphere"
A convincing result that gave him wings. Indeed, two weeks later, still in September 2012, on the Paul-Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, the Évreux native did it again by taking third place in race 2 of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0.
Returning to 2025, the French pilot is delighted to once again head to the heart of the Austrian mountains. And for good reason: "What hasn't changed is the incredible atmosphere. We all love running here." He pursues : "Austria is always an interesting weekend. It's quite a demanding circuit for the brakes around the Red Bull Ring. And it's one of the races that takes place at a bit of altitude."
“It has some very high-speed sections, making it one of the fastest circuits of the year. And it’s also one of the classics.” Finally, Esteban Ocon said, hoping to build on his good result in Canada two weeks ago (9th) to get new crucial points for his team.
