The definitive 2014 FIA sporting regulations

As we know, the FIA regulations are regularly subject to modifications from one year to the next. The version published today sets in stone the various more or less controversial measures that have been adopted over the past week.

To begin with, the one which has caused a lot of ink to flow in the newspapers in recent days, consisting of doubling the points during the final race in Abu Dhabi, is confirmed. Rather poorly received by the drivers including the reigning four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, this novelty could perhaps change the situation during the last round of 2014 on the Yas Marina Circuit.

As expected, a trophy will be awarded to the driver with the most poles during the season. A timpani that Baby Schumi will logically covet.

Still with regard to the latest decisions of the FIA, the unique number that the drivers will have to choose from next year must be written very visibly on the nose of the car. car and on the helmet. Here we join what is done in NASCAR where cars conspicuously display the number on the doors and the driver's name on the windshield.

New for testing

The FIA has also given new guidelines regarding the private testing sessions that will be organized during the season. These runs can be organized after any Grand Prix of the season. A winter testing session will be reserved in 2014 for rain tires.
Regarding free practice, this time, four drivers will be able to take turns and share the seats during free practice 1 and 2. An idea that should be appreciated by young drivers.

Additional penalty in the repressive arsenal

Stewards will have a new potential penalty at their disposal. If a driver is released from his pit in a dangerous manner during practice, the stewards may impose a penalty of places on the grid depending on the seriousness of the action.

To finish with the big measures, the pilots will not have to take advantage " sustainable " of an off-piste passage. The sanction will remain at the discretion of the racing authorities.
