The more powerful Renault RS27 in 2012

After five years of good and loyal service, the RS27 developed by Renault Sport F1 will still power Lotus F1 Team, Caterham F1 Team, Red Bull Racing and the new customer team Williams F1 Team, which has decided to place its trust in Viruses-Châtillon replacing Cosworth. Le Losange had to adapt its 8 liter V2.4 to the new regulations which now prohibit the use of blown exhausts. Rob White, Deputy Managing Director of Renault Sport F1, announces higher power compared to the previous season thanks to the new regulations. Reliability has also been improved.

“One of the big technical challenges was adapting the engine to the new exhaust regulations and we are almost back to 2010 specifications”, explains Rob White. “But this is not a simple step backwards, because single-seaters and the regulations on engine mapping have evolved in the meantime. We had to rework how we integrated the engine into the whole car? and four different exhaust designs. These new regulations will allow us to benefit from an increase in power, of the order of 10 to 20 horsepower compared to 2011. The top speed should logically be higher. We should return to the power level of 2009. In addition to these changes, we have introduced minor developments intended to improve reliability. »
