The return of Imola rewards the work carried out by the circuit according to the ACI

From the last Grand Prix F1 contested in 2006, and which saw the victory of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari, with the announcement of the return of the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit to the F1 calendar for November 1, fourteen years have passed.

A period when the transalpine circuit underwent heavy renovation work, and remained a meeting place for a number of championships, notably theELMS, and the main Italian series. But the “comeback” of F1 validates at the highest level all the commitment made by the management teams to make Imola an attractive track.

“It is an important step and a strong recognition of the organizational qualities and the history of Italian motor racing, comments Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy.

The decision of the FIA and the F1 organizers to include an event on the Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in the 2020 calendar, after those of Monza and Mugello, is a further confirmation of the quality of the work carried out by the ACI over the years.

Of course, this decision is also a recognition of the history of the Imola circuit which has written fundamental pages of the epic of Formula 1. An extraordinary return which rewards the technical qualities of the structure and the great skills of those who have worked there for years »

Like the United States in 1982, with Long Beach, Detroit and the track designed in the parking lot of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Italy will be able to boast of hosting three races in 2020, an almost unprecedented situation at this level of competition. the competition.

“This is an absolute record for our country which certifies the high quality of motorsport in our country, Damiani continues. In fact, we are the only ones in the world to have three circuits approved to host F1 races, with Monza, Mugello and Imola, and two others, Vallelunga and Misano, approved for testing. »

For fans to be completely happy, all that remains is for Ferrari to win at least one of its three races. That's a completely different story, but recent internal changes at the Scuderia could potentially lead to a return to form for the SF1000s for the end of the summer and fall. Response on track.
