After a Spanish Grand Prix where several drivers, including Sergio Pérez of Force India, complained about the great hardness of Pirelli rubber, the Italian manufacturer will offer teams its super-soft tire for the first time this season, with red sides.
“Like all of our 2014 slick tires, the supersofts have new compounds and construction this year, aimed at improving their durability. Wear and tear is traditionally very low in Monaco, so it is possible to race with just one pit stop, says Paul Hembery, Director of Pirelli Motorsport. However, this is not always the quickest way, so strategy will play an important role as always. In addition, it is very difficult to overtake in the Principality. This will also increase the importance of qualification. Any racing strategy must be flexible, as there is a high probability of a safety car on this tight circuit. Reading the race, and using every opportunity that presents itself, will once again be the key to success. »
The super-soft tires will make their big debut this season during the first day of free practice on Thursday morning.
