The return to Azerbaijan will take place without spectators

While Bahrain does everything possible to welcome the public when the season opens on March 28, Azerbaijan does not have the same luck. Indeed, the round taking place in the streets of the capital, back on the calendar, will take place behind closed doors.

« Baku Circuit City (Grand Prix promoter, editor’s note.) confirms that the return of the Formula 1 in Azerbaijan the weekend of June 4 to 6 will take place without spectators, reads the statement.

This decision was taken in light of the current health concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic, after extensive deliberation between Baku Circuit City, the Government of Azerbaijan, F1 and the FIA ».

Following the cancellation of the meeting last year, the promoter did everything possible to welcome the public this year but “ it became clear that the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend was coming too early for the event to take place in the presence of fans safely ».

« We are, of course, delighted to welcome F1 back to Baku after such a difficult period., recognized the executive director of the promoter Arif Rahimov who did not forget to address the fans. They will be greatly missed, especially as they played a very important role in making this race weekend a special event year after year. Our message is as simple as it is sincere: we miss you and we will see each other again ! "

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is the first meeting of the 2021 season to confirm that it will be held behind closed doors. Hopefully the others won't suffer the same fate.
