The Dual Axis Steering system will not be authorized in 2021

The technical discovery that is causing so much talk in the Barcelona paddock should therefore be ephemeral, just like its potential benefits. As indicated on the official website of the F1, Two-Axis Management installed on the Mercedes W11 should not be regulatory in 2021, as part of the expected major technical change.

The 2021 technical regulations, published on the FIA website at the end of 2019, mention in its article 10.5.2, a section relating to the steering system: “the realignment of the steering wheels, as defined by the position of the inner attachment of the suspension elements concerned which remain at a fixed distance from each other, must be defined only by a monotonic function of the rotation of a single steering wheel. »

The front – back movement of the steering wheel, seen on the drivers’ on-board cameras Mercedes would therefore not be included in this definition.

Enough to authorize such a system for only one season, if by chance the FIA found nothing to complain about. Also see if the other teams will come to engage in the development of such a solution for the course of the 2020 campaign.
