The Austin route does not raise any concerns at Renault

A few days after making the headlines, with the officialization of the arrival of Nico Hülkenberg from the 2017 season, it is on the track that Renault Sport F1 Team hopes to make a name for himself again this weekend in Austin.

A meeting on American soil which will be approached in two ways by the duo Kevin Magnussen –Jolyon Palmer. If the Dane knows the Texan track having driven there in 2014 with McLaren, Jolyon Palmer will make his debut there. The former GP2 champion is expecting a real driving challenge.

“It seems to be one of the best modern tracks, so I’m looking forward to driving there, underlines the Briton. In the simulator it seemed quite tricky with several undulations, a few blind turns and a few good fast turns. »

La car French will also be provided with some adjustments in terms of aero, which could help the duo on the American technical route. “It’s all about maximizing what we have, comments technical director Nick Chester.

There are some minor aero parts that we will have on the car which are just the final elements of the R.S. 16 development program. Additionally, we are making progress on tuning and tire management, particularly for the qualifications. There is nothing about the track that doesn't alarm us with our car.

Based on the simulations, we could have a good race. It’s a nice, fairly smooth circuit with a high-speed first sector incorporating lots of fast corners, the very ones that have suited our car well of late. We expect a level of performance from the R.S. 16 close to that of Sepang or Suzuka. »

Enough to hope to regain the points, from which Magnussen and Palmer had been absent, after two consecutive top 10 finishes for the Diamond in Singapore and Malaysia.
