On this second day of winter testing, Leclerc took over from his teammate Marcus Ericsson at the wheel of the Sauber C37 to complete his first laps in the shoes of a regular driver. If the Swede had already experienced cool track conditions at the start of the tests, the mercury showed an even lower level on Tuesday. Nothing to dampen the champion's enthusiasm F2 outgoing.
« It feels really good to get back in the car, said Leclerc. It's been quite a while since I last rode. Unfortunately, the conditions were not great. The track was very cold and very slippery so not easy this morning. There was even ice so it was a bit undrivable. I spun in the gravel because I made a little mistake. I wanted to find the limits of the car. Other than that, everything went very well. »
Despite the unpredictable weather, Leclerc was able to work on a few elements of his testing program.
« We can work on the balance of the car even if it takes a lot more time because the tires are very cold and difficult to warm up. And it also depends on the compound we use. It's not ideal but we can already have a little idea... The procedures in F1 are also important and it's good to have the opportunity to review them to be ready for the Grands Prix. »
The 20-year-old young man believes that these first scraps of printing augur interesting potential for the latest addition to the Hinwill workshops.
« It's a good base. Afterwards, there is still a lot of work to do but that is normal at this stage of the season. »
