Hard blow for Charles Leclerc et Pierre Gasly. While post-race technical checks revealed cars under the minimum authorized weight, the FIA proceeded to the disqualification of the two drivers.
The reasons for the disqualification of Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly
Concerning the Monegasque, his Ferrari displayed a weight of 800 kg on the scales during the weigh-in, which is the minimum weight required by Article 4.1 of the Federation's technical regulations. As the front wing was damaged, Charles Leclerc's SF-25 was weighed a second time with a spare front wing intended for his car. The weight thus increased to 800,5 kg.
Then, 2 liters of fuel were removed from the tank in accordance with the draining procedure presented by the team. When it was re-tested, the weight dropped to 799 kg. The FIA insisted that the scales were properly calibrated and approved by the team, and that the replacement wing weighed 0,2 kg more than the damaged one used during the race.
For Pierre Gasly, this only concerns the weight of the A525 after the removal of 1,1 kg of fuel. When this was removed, theAlpine No. 10 weighed 799 kg, which is 1 kg under the minimum weight required after the race.
Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly finished 5th and 11th respectively. These disqualifications allow Lewis Hamilton, Esteban Ocon, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Alex Albon and Oliver Bearman to gain a place in the Top 10 while Lance stroll integrates it.
