Leclerc: “The gap with Mercedes is huge”

Charles Leclerc experienced difficult qualifying at the Spanish GP. The pilot Ferrari damaged his SF90 by hitting a curb in Q2 and subsequently had to fight for the best possible position on the grid with his damage.

The Monegasque finally obtained 5th position between the Red Bull de Max Verstappen et Pierre Gasly, failing 3 tenths behind his teammate Sebastian Vettel.

“Not really satisfied., admitted the former resident ofAlfa Romeo Clean F1 team. We did not expect to lose so much time in the long corners from Q2 which was very difficult. It surprised me to lose this element when going over the curb because I took the same trajectory all weekend without encountering any problems. I had a bit of understeer. The balance was strange in Q3 and we will have to inspect the car to check, but in the end we are far from the Mercedes."

Charles Leclerc can only recognize the clear superiority of Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas having won pole with more than 8 tenths ahead of the first Ferrari.

“The Mercedes were already very fast yesterday and we knew that would be the case again today. It is true that the gap is enormoushe said. Red Bull is also performing well, especially since they manage the tires very well in the race. We are suffering a little in the slow corners and we will have to find a solution to progress in this sector. It will be a difficult race. »
