Leclerc: “The soft tires were a disaster”

Charles Leclerc carried once again Ferrari on his shoulders this weekend. The Monegasque went for a top 5 in qualifying despite a still capricious car. Starting on soft like all the top ten, he experienced an ordeal in his first stint. From the first lap, we saw him blocking his pursuers.

“In the first part of the race, the soft tires were a disaster, explains Charles Leclerc. With them, we had a lot of trouble finding the rhythm, which compromised our race. So we opted for a two-stop strategy which I think was the best. »

When it came time to put on his mounts for the last ten all after the safety car came out, Leclerc chose the safe option. “On the one hand I wanted to try the softs but with the first part of the race horrible, we didn't take any risks and we left with the mediums, except that they were very cold. »

Charles Lerclerc passed through Pierre Gasly and placed seventh. “It’s the best result we could have hoped for today. I'm happy with the overall improvements over the last few weeks. We are not yet where we would like, but each step is going in the right direction, which is what we need” concluded the Ferrari driver.

Charles Leclerc finished in the points for the sixth time in eleven races.
