A week after his frustration in Singapore where he lost victory to his teammate Sebastian Vettel, Charles Leclerc won his 4th consecutive pole by winning Russian GP qualifying. The Monegasque did not go into detail by relegating his closest opponents to more than 4 tenths.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be on pole again. However, I am not sure that this is the best track to start from the front. The start will be even more important here with this very long straight line”, indicated the six-time pole-sitter of the season who will start in front Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Sebastian Vettel.
His series of poles is a first for the Team Ferrari since the performance of Michael Schumacher in 2000.
“It's fantastic to equal this record but I don't want to focus too much on the statistics. There is still work to be done. The weekend is going well so far, we showed good performances on the track, and we have good hopes for the race because our simulations were promising”, added the Ferrari driver.
Charles Leclerc will be able to aim for a 3rd victory in 4 races which would help him return to 2nd place in Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes).
