From zero to hero, Charles Leclerc went through all the emotions during the last qualifying session in Barcelona. Despite the pole position obtained on Saturday for the Spanish Grand Prix, the Monegasque almost ruined everything in Q3. Designated favorite for pole after an almost perfect weekend (1st in all sessions except Q2), Leclerc spun in the last chicane of the circuit during his first time.

An aborted round which put the championship leader under pressure from Max Verstappen. “It was a very difficult session, especially in Q3 with this mistake on my first attempt. I was only able to do one lap, there were some hot moments in that lap but I managed to hold on car. I am very happy with this pole, the car was exceptional! » declared the pole sitter of the day after qualifying.

“I’m wary of Red Bull and Max”

Under pressure, Charles Leclerc did not give in and set a fantastic time in 1'18″750. A time which propelled him to first place with more than 3 tenths ahead of the Dutchman. A great performance for the man who scored his fourth pole of the season in Spain. But the pilot Ferrari knows it: the F1-75 is struggling with race pace and victory is very far from being achieved on Sunday. “We are in the best position to start the race but we are struggling with the resistance of the tires. I am wary of Red Bull and Max because they manage the tires better than us. We'll need to get through this and do a good job tomorrow. »

Point of optimism for Charles Leclerc: the driver who starts in pole position in Barcelona has a 74% chance of winning, if we look at the statistics from previous races at the Catalan circuit. The Monegasque wants to take his revenge from Miami against Verstappen and why not aim better for Ferrari: “We will try to do a double with Carlos, it would be great for the team. We're gonna give everything. »
