George Russell passes from arm to arm, leaves, returns, crouches, gets up. Nothing can drown out the cries of joy, not even the congas on which Brazilian aficionados frantically beat. In the garage Mercedes, jubilation is everywhere. Interlagos becomes a drunken boat sailing on a sea of emotions. It’s the samba of happiness that takes over his entire body. What he experiences is unique, he knows it and prolongs the pleasure. He also delays the moment to take off his helmet, to come out of his bubble, to reveal his reddened eyes. As they crossed the line, tears of happiness, but also of relief, flowed. Happiness to sign a first victory in F1 and relief to see the hard work put in during the season finally rewarded. Because this victory is also, above all, that of the resilience of a team which never gave up. The joy of young Russell, in these moments, is matched only by the deep satisfaction of Lewis Hamilton. Pushed by his old rival Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in Senna's Esses at the start of the GP, he could have real regrets. It is not so. This success is also his, and this second place in his teammate's aspiration, the certainty of better days. Mercedes is back in the spotlight, that's all that matters to them.
