Ferrari's mistake

“It leaves a bitter taste,” concedes Stefano Domenicali, “there is no one to blame in particular. We are a team, and we win or lose together” defends Felipe Massa? There Team Ferrari was quite simply trapped today in qualifying. Explanations from Luca Baldisseri: “We had planned to do only one fast lap with our soft tires, in order to preserve them for the future, then to do our fastest lap at the start of the following session, since we feared the ?arrival of rain. We then no longer had time to react when we realized that the track was evolving much more quickly than we expected. We therefore watched, helplessly, as our drivers fell back in the standings. It cost Felipe Q2. »

It is quite rare for Ferrari to be trapped in this way. An error of judgment which cost Felipe Massa dearly, forced to perform in the race. ?If I had qualified in 16th place due to a lack of performance, I could have accepted it. But in these circumstances, it really hurts! My first run wasn't perfect, and the track improved so quickly that we got trapped. We need to change our approach and approach qualifications in a different way than in the past. However, I am very motivated. It won't be the first time in my career that I've started from the back of the grid, but I know I'll be able to set a high pace. We must try everything in our power, and exploit every opportunity that presents itself in order to gain a position. »

For his part, Kimi Räikkönen expected better. “Honestly, the biggest problem at the moment is that we are not fast enough to fight for the top positions. The car does not fail in any particular area, but we lack the grip to be as fast as those in front of us today. »

For the Finn, Ferrari's progress depends on clarification of the regulations. “We need to improve our performance, but obviously it is important that the rules are clarified as quickly as possible, in order to decide in which direction to go. »
