Improvements will finally come to the Hungarian Grand Prix for Haas

While the improvements on the VF-22 were initially due to arrive for the French Grand Prix, Haas will ultimately wait one more week in Hungary before applying them to the cars of Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher. The fault lies in a final check in the wind tunnel before producing the parts.

In Barcelona, Haas was already one of the rare teams not to make improvements to its two cars. This decision was motivated by Günther Steiner who believed he could extract more performance from the VF-22 before making modifications. “ For our part, we decided to wait a little longer regarding the developments because I think we still have performance with the current car », indicated the team manager of Haas in Catalonia. It is still with this same perspective that the Italian leader confirmed in Montreal that developments are still not on the agenda.

While forecasts envisaged the arrival of new parts for the French Grand Prix, it is ultimately at the Hungaroring that Haas will bring its first package of improvements of the year. This additional week's delay should allow the American entity to carry out the final checks before giving the green light. “ Maybe it will be Hungary. We took a step back because we wanted to check something else in the wind tunnel, but now we are fully into production for Hungary », announces Günther Steiner.

By choosing to take its time before making changes, Haas does not want to find itself in the same position as last year. Gene Haas's team has had a bad habit in the past of making changes that didn't work or that the team didn't understand. “ It is the objective. We're trying to improve it, but I don't know where we end up », explains the Italian leader

Hungary and then heading to 2023 for Haas

After waiting at least 13 rounds of the calendar to make improvements to the VF-22, the car should experience a change in look. “ I hope this will be a big step forward in terms of performance. I don't really care about the appearance, but you will see a difference. »  In the Catalan paddock, Günther Steiner had already announced that his team was going to take a turning point in the season with these modifications. “ When we make improvements you will see it's practically everywhere on the car. We will have a nice package. I wouldn't say it's 'everywhere' on the car, that would be an exaggeration, but there will be big changes. »

Once the date of the Hungarian Grand Prix is ticked on the calendar (July 29-31), development of the VF-22 should end. Haas' strategy would therefore consist of taking a big step forward and then riding this dynamic. “ We'll then move on to next year's car. That's all, says Günther Steiner. There will be no further updates. We just stop making parts for this car. You always continue to develop and obviously, if you find something on this car that gives you a big advantage, then you do it. But we are not specifically working on a big package (of improvements. Editor's note) for this car. " Waiting for, Mick Schumacher et Kevin Magnussen would really need a little help after a period of scarcity. No Haas has in fact been seen in the Top 10 at the finish of a Grand Prix since Imola, almost 2 months ago…
